Two Newcastle United players will be the official starters of the Great North Run in the year that the club won a long-awaited trophy.

Winger Jacob Murphy and keeper Nick Pope (above) will team up to trigger the start of the action. Both were part of the Carabao Cup-winning campaign that brought the club its first domestic trophy in 70 years.
Race founder Sir Brendan Foster says the pairing of the players will mark another first in what is an illustrious line of run starters.
