Tynemouth ease drop fears with last-ball victory

TYNEMOUTH eased their Premier Division relegation fears with a nailbiting last-ball victory against Ashington.

It was looking good for hosts Tynemouth early on as they reduced Ashington to 51-5, with Bishworjit Konthoujam taking 4-24.

But the visitors rallied, with Cameron Nichols scoring 41 and Sean McCafferty hitting an excellent 97 from 113 balls as Ashington recovered to reach 225 all out.

In reply, Tynemouth’s Matthew Kimmitt scored 39 and Jack Roys made 42, but then Nichols and James Harmison claimed three wickets each to leave the game in the balance.

However, Stanley McAlindon made a useful 43 and Tynemouth scraped home with 226-9 off the last ball of the game, with skipper Martin Pollard scoring the winning runs.
