THE FIT FACTOR

THE chilly weather we have had across the UK this week has prompted me to write this, because as we move into the colder months it's important to recognise the many benefits of training during this season.

- David Fairlamb

Keeping up a healthy workout routine all year round and refusing to let cold weather or gloomy conditions stop you, helps to build a strong resilient, can-do mentality.

Research shows that 70% of people who start a fitness or diet regime without a specific goal fail.

So, if you've added a few extra pounds over the summer, here are some common excuses you might recognise and how to turn them into positives if you really want to see changes.

Negative: It’s winter and I feel down

Positive: As the nights draw in, levels of the feelgood chemicals in your brain naturally dip, which can leave you feeling low. But research shows that a cardio workout boosts serotonin and is up to four times more effective at reducing symptoms of depression than antidepressants.
