Speed limit on rural route looks set to be reduced

THE speed limit on the main road between Hexham and Corbridge looks set to be reduced in order to accommodate a new cycle route between the two settlements.

Under current proposals, the limit on the A695 will be reduced from 60mph to 50mph, and will fall as low as 30mph through Dilston.

The council is also considering introducing traffic lights over Dilston Bridge so that cyclists and pedestrians will be able to use the route safely. The so-called travel corridor is funded by the Government's levelling up fund, as part of a £14.7m bid to improve active travel in Tynedale and in Bedlington.
