Smell of gas closes school

A school in Sunderland was closed yesterday due to a suspected gas leak, with staff and students evacuated as a precaution.

At Thornhill Academy, on Thornholme Road, a smell of gas was identified in the morning, with the Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service contacted at 8.27am.
