Residents on low incomes to lose tax exemption

RESIDENTS on lower incomes across County Durham are set to lose their council tax exemption after fresh proposals were approved by the local authority.

Durham County Council voted through amendments to its discount programme during a session held on Wednesday which will see the majority of households required to contribute a minimum of 10% towards their council tax liability.

The alterations are designed to ensure all inhabitants play a part in funding services delivered by the council.
