I'd rather be at home watching Columbo than be on a dating app

MARION MCMULLEN finds out why comedian Bridget Christie is staying single as she heads out on a UK tour

Why did you call your new tour Jacket Potato Pizza? It comes from a date I went on in my 20s when a guy made me a 'jacket potato pizza' - a dry baked potato plonked into the middle of a dry pizza base - and then told me it was 'fusion cuisine.' I didn't see him again...

Do you talk in the show about being single again in middle age?

I talk a little bit about not actively dating through choice and being a 'volcel' - a voluntary celibate. The dating world has changed greatly since I last dated and there is so much involved now with apps, etc that I genuinely cannot be a**ed.

So you are not swiping left or right at the moment?

No. I will meet someone in real life organically who piques my interest or I'll stay single, but I'm definitely not going to be downloading another app and giving away even more of my data to some billionaire so that I can meet up with someone I've got nothing in common with and talk s**t when I can be at home with a cat on me, drinking wine and watching Columbo.

What is it like being the mother of two teenagers?

Where to start with that question! I am both excited for them as they enter this new chapter of their lives and also devastated for myself as I come to terms with a future without them in my day-to-day life. When they're little you never see it coming. You never think about them leaving.

Have they both flown the nest?

HEALTHY START

January is the right time for a reset. Nothing extreme, just food to help you feel good. Think fresh flavours, colourful plates and meals as nourishing as they are comforting. Soothing soups, vibrant salads and a spicy curry are on my menu plus, of course, the odd selection box chocolate which needs eating up!
