Homes plan for former factory site

PLANS to redevelop a former BAE Systems site into a new residential scheme will be considered by Gateshead councillors next week.

The former BAE Systems site on Ravensworth Road, Birtley, could soon be home to 276 new homes, if an application from Gleeson Regeneration Ltd is approved.
The defence giants had been based on the site since 1916, but closed in 2012 when operations relocated to Washington.
