Five new child suspects in teen fire death probe

DETECTIVES probing the death of teenager Layton Carr were yesterday questioning five new child suspects.
The 14-year-old's body was found dead after emergency services were called to a blaze at a building near the Fairfield Industrial estate in the Bill Quay area of Gateshead on the evening of Friday, May 2.
In the days that followed 16 children, aged between 11 and 14, were arrested on suspicion of manslaughter. And now officers have held five more manslaughter suspects. The boys are also aged 11 to 14. Two were yesterday still being questioned in police custody while the remaining three have been released on bail.
This brings the total number of arrests to 21. However, the detective leading the probe said he believes there are still people that were at the scene on the night of the fire that police have not yet traced.
