Drug blast killer will not see his jail term increase
The Journal
|June 24, 2025
KILLER drug dealer Reece Galbraith will not be locked up for longer for causing an explosion that claimed the life of a seven-year-old boy.
The 33-year-old was jailed for 14 years last month after admitting manslaughter in connection with the explosion that claimed the life of Archie York last October.
His jail term was referred to the Attorney General's Office Unduly Lenient Sentence Scheme (ULS) for being too short. However, it has now been confirmed that Galbraith's case will not be sent to the Court of Appeal for his sentence to be reconsidered, and the punishment handed to the killer by a judge at Newcastle Crown Court still stands.
The fatal explosion was caused by a dangerous cannabis lab Galbraith set up in the flat below where Archie lived on Violet Close in Benwell, Newcastle, the court heard.
