Direct trains to Brighton planned

The Journal

|

April 28, 2025

NORTH East train passengers could be travelling to Brighton on direct services from December next year, if proposals are successful.

Arriva Group is submitting an application to regulator the Office of Rail and Road (ORR) for permission to run direct services between Newcastle and Brighton under the Grand Central brand. Services would call at stations such as York, Sheffield, Birmingham New Street, Oxford, Reading and Gatwick Airport on their way.

There are plans to run five services per day in each direction from December 2026.
