'Delight' as school's Gap tree sapling takes root
The Journal
|December 12, 2025
THE closest school to where Sycamore Gap once stood has planted a sapling from the felled tree in its grounds.
> Sycamore Gap
Henshaw Church of England Primary became one of 49 recipients of a “Tree of Hope” from the National Trust on Wednesday, nine of which have gone to organisations in the North East.
The tree was planted on a hillside within a play area at the school after children embarked on a short procession carrying a themed artwork.
They sang a specially-written song, and in the future there are plans to unveil a giant community mosaic which spells out “Our Tree of Hope”.
