Controversial recovery centre proves its worth

A controversial move to open an addiction recovery centre at a Newcastle community library has been hailed as a major success.

There was a public outcry in 2018 when Newcastle City Council announced its decision to launch a new drug and alcohol addiction recovery hub at Fenham Library.
More than 3,000 people signed a petition opposing the project, amid a bitter row with city officials that included concerns about the safety of local children and accusations that the Fenham community was not properly consulted about the redevelopment.
