LNER staff who have been verbally abused and threatened are hailing the impact of body-worn cameras, after 180 were introduced by the train operator.

- OWEN YOUNGER

To mark Railway Safety Week, the transport company is highlighting instances of its staff being intimidated on trains, and how these cameras can stop situations from escalating.

Several video clips shared to YouTube show this unacceptable behaviour take place, with the cameras providing LNER colleagues with additional support to face aggressive people.

In the past year, the cameras have been worn more than 12,000 times by teams on trains and at stations, providing insight into incidents that the onboard CCTV on LNER Azuma trains may miss.
