NEWCASTLE United head coach Eddie Howe admits his side have endured a brutal start to the 2025/26 campaign - and that a European trip might be just what the doctor ordered.

The Magpies are certain to head to Belgium for their Champions League clash with Union Saint-Gilloise without Tino Livramento who was carried off in the 2-1 home loss to Arsenal.

The former Southampton man looked distressed after picking up a knee injury.

However, it looks like England international Lewis Hall will make the flight after suffering a minor fitness issue which kept him out of the Arsenal game, while Kieran Trippier is in line to replace Livramento at right-back. Howe told The Journal: “The change of competition is possibly a good thing for us as well because we can just leave the Premier League behind and just focus on the Champions League and try to get that campaign up and running.
