ARTISTS INVITED TO 'BREATHE LIFE' INTO WOOD FROM FELLED TREE

Around half of the timber from the felled Sycamore Gap tree will be made available for artists to create “a nationally significant thing’, the National Trust has announced.

The National Trust has invited artists and organisations to make proposals that will “breathe life” into wood from the felled tree. Up to five artists will be shortlisted to develop their proposals, before one is selected in early 2026.

The charity is looking for proposals that use the Sycamore Gap story and timber to explore the nation’s connection to nature and inspire people to look after it. Trust bosses say the commission is an “extraordinary opportunity to create a nationally significant thing” from the tree.
