The Women Parliamentarians’ Caucus has opened fresh discussions on potential UK support to strengthen its policy and advocacy efforts, while also focusing on fostering intergenerational dialogue to boost political participation among young women.

The meeting, held last week under the patronage of Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya and chaired by Minister of Women and Child Affairs Saroja Savitri Paulraj, brought together representatives from the Westminster Foundation for Democracy (WFD) and the Law and Society Trust (LST) to explore collaborative pathways.

Addressing the committee, WFD representatives proposed a multi-pronged support framework aimed at institutional strengthening. This includes assistance in promoting gender-sensitive lawmaking, gender-responsive budgeting, and improving the Caucus’s capacity to influence women’s labour force participation.
