TNPF leader calls for unified Tamil stance and full int'l inquiry into their genocide claim
The Island
|July 22, 2025
Tamil National People's Front (TNPF) leader Gajendrakumar Ponnambalam, MP reiterated the demand for a comprehensive international investigation into the injustices and acts of genocide committed against the Tamil people, warning against piecemeal or contradictory approaches that could undermine the struggle for justice.
-
The lawmaker said so at a recent press conference held in Jaffna.
Ponnambalam argued that isolated investigations, including into the recently unearthed Chemmani mass graves, would not suffice to capture the full extent of state violence and historical oppression faced by Tamils in Sri Lanka. Only a comprehensive inquiry into the long history of injustices and acts of genocide committed against the Tamil people, since 1948, would reveal the full truth, he stated.

Surreal promises
Long years back, when I was posted in Bihar under the Lalu regime, a Bihari friend had told me, \"To understand Bihar, you must realise that Bihar is more a state of mind than reality.\" Looking at the poll promises floating around, I am reminded once again of this statement, especially for the fabulous promises made by the RJD.
