"Siva Friendship Cup" celebrates sports, unity and a life shaped by football

Gratitude for what sports made him become has inspired the birth of the “Siva Friendship Cup”, an annual football match between Jaffna Hindu College (JHC) and Zahira College, Gampola (GZC), the two alma maters of M. Sivakumaran, a respected sportsman and successful entrepreneur.

Fondly known as Siva, Mr. Sivakumaran was an avid athlete from his early days. As a boarder at Jaffna Hindu College, he actively participated in multiple sports. After his family relocated to Kandy, he joined Zahira College, Gampola, where his love for sports continued to flourish. A naturally gifted sprinter, his exceptional speed made him a valuable asset across multiple sports teams, especially in football and rugby. In 1976, Siva's talent was nationally recognized when he was selected for the Sri Lanka National Junior Football Team.
