They fervently hope that renewable energy enthusiasts, those who seek to mitigate the damaging effects of climate change and those who believe in the importance of sustainable development will support in the fundraising in this impactful initiative to bring renewable energy to Sri Lanka's underserved communities in remote parts of the island.

Solar Village SDG CIC, an Oxfordshire, UK, based community interest company, has launched an exciting, sponsored walk fundraising initiative called Oxford City Walkabout scheduled on Sunday 2nd November 2025.

They are inviting teams of walkers or individuals to join in this exciting fundraiser taking in many of Oxford’s beautiful landmarks. The walk will last about two and a half hours. This will culminate in more fundraising with a social event which will include a quiz, an Oxford City/Sri Lanka themed art sale, Sri Lankan music, a raffle with a banana leaf wrapped Sri Lankan lunch.

Solar Village SDG invites teams of walkers from businesses (professional or retail companies), alumni of past pupil associations, professional associations, University students’ associations and groups of friends and family or individuals to come together for this fabulous event. They expect to generate a multiplier effect as each member of the team will reach out to all their own contacts for sponsorship.

Their target is to raise sufficient funds for at least two solar villages and two smart rooms in village schools in rural Sri Lanka to provide solar power solutions and sustainable development in struggling communities.
