Zohran Mamdani is the Democratic nominee for NY mayor. He is 33 and a democratic socialist who seems poised to be Mayor of New York, defeating political veteran Andrew Cuomo, previously state governor. "Tonight, we made history," Mamdani said in his victory speech.

NY mayoral candidate

Thank goodness or Karma, or more correctly President AKD and PM Harini and their government for almost all being quiet on the Sri Lankan front. We had two VVIP personages visiting the country on reckoning sojourns - from the UN Human Rights Commission and the World Bank. Facts were presented well by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya and Minister of External Affairs Vijitha Herath.

There was a very cogent and relevant article on Western countries often banding themselves to condemn third world nations on human rights violations and make accusations of violation of the rights of Tamils in the North at the end of the Eelam war. The LTTE was the aggressor and violator of the rights of even Tamil youth. Overlooked were the thousands of innocent Tamil civilians who were used as human shields for Prabhakaran and other LTTE leaders to escape at the end of the war and were rescued and saved by SL armed forces.

Another apt message was an open letter written to the visiting High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Turk.

As I noted at the beginning of this Cry, all seems quiet on the local front, with good things happening like our new lady Mayor. Already more fumigation is being carried out.

So, it meant Cass had to steer her news hungry eyes outward.
