Defence Secretary Air Vice Marshal (retd) Sampath Thuyacontha addressing a high-profile gathering at the 12th Beijing Xiangshan Forum in China, underscored the importance of collective dialogue, regional cooperation, and mutual respect in addressing global and regional security challenges.

"We should take seriously the legitimate security concerns of every country and promote peaceful settlement of differences and disputes through dialogue and consultation. We need to continue pursuing open regionalism and steadily advance regional economic integration," he said.
The 12th Beijing Xiangshan Forum was held from 7 to 19 September at the Beijing International Convention Centre. Speaking at the Fourth Plenary Session on "Building Regional Peace Through Dialogue and Consultation" on Friday (19), the Defence Secretary expressed Sri Lanka's appreciation to the Chinese government for inviting him to a high-level security and defence forum that has become a vital platform for fostering dialogue and promoting peace in the Asia-Pacific and beyond.
