Family give thanks 'for support' after murder arrest

LINDSAY Rimer's family has thanked the public for their “love and support” following the arrest of a murder suspect.

West Yorkshire Police have arrested a man on suspicion of murder following the death of Lindsay Rimer 31 years ago.

Lindsay, 13, disappeared on the evening of November 7, 1994, in Hebden Bridge. She was last seen at 10.22pm at her local SPAR buying cornflakes.

Alarm bells started to ring the next morning when she did not turn up for her paper round. Her body was discovered over five months later in the Rochdale canal in April 1995.

A boulder had been placed over her body and only dislodged during dredging work along the canal in the Spring. A postmortem carried out at the time concluded it was most likely Lindsay had been strangled to death.

In a statement released to a Facebook group dedicated to Lindsay, Lindsay’s family thanked everyone for their “support and kind messages” ~ but will not be making “any comments’ on the latest news.
