EVENT OPEN TO WRITERS OF ALL TYPES OF LITERATURE

- WILLIAM TELFORD

WRITERS of all forms are being given the chance to read their work at a series of events organised by Plymouth’s Laureate of Words Richard Thomas.

Richard, who writes as RC Thomas, will host the first A Very Wordy Afternoon at Plymouth’s Central Library on Saturday, June 20, from 1.30pm to 3.30pm.

The event will be the first of quarterly gatherings and follow from a successful event in March to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the library moving to its current location.

Richard said it was very well attended, with a near capacity 24 writers taking part and stressed that A Very Wordy Afternoon is open to writers of all types of literature.

But Richard is keen to give time to writers of prose, fiction, non-fiction and drama, as poetry tends to dominate open mic events.

“The library staff asked if I wanted to do it again as a quarterly event,” he said. “So we are doing it on June 20, September 19 and December 19, each time from 1.30pm to 3.30pm.

“Anyone can come and take part, it's open to all forms of creative writing, with allocated slots for categories: fiction, non-fiction, poetry and miscellaneous.
