Triple blow for town as trio of top eateries are closed

THREE KINGSBRIDGE OUTLETS SHUT DOWN

A TOWN in South Devon has been hit with a triple blow after three award-winning restaurants closed their doors.

Kingsbridge food bars The Old Bakery, Wild Artichokes and The Old Warehouse have all shut, with owners each say they are taking a much-needed break from the food scene.

It comes as many hospitality businesses point to crippling rising costs as reasons for quitting.

Wild Artichokes, based in a unit on Lower Union Road, had built a reputation for creative and seasonal dishes and was acclaimed by the Good Food Guide as among the best 100 restaurants in Britain.

It has enjoyed years of rave reviews for hearty dishes and was described by The Times as 'undiluted joy.

In a post online the owners, Sam Miller and Jane Baxter, confirmed they have hung up their aprons and pulled down the shutter one last time.

They say: "Looking back over the last ten years, there's never been a dull moment and it's definitely been the multifaceted business that we set out to create.

"Weddings, birthday parties, community events, pop up dinners, cookery demos, pop up shopping, award ceremonies, specialty dinners, festivals, private dining, takeaways, and our much loved dining events at WAHQ.
