Tavistock must make the most of home matches if they are to survive in Div One
The Herald
|January 09, 2026
IF Tavistock are to pull off the unlikeliest of great escapes, then you feel that January is the month in which they must make ground in Southern League Division One South - especially with four games on home turf this month, starting with tomorrow's visit of Sporting Club Inkberrow.
The Lambs started the New Year with a tricky trip to fellow strugglers Brixham and there was little between the two sides in a match the Fish won 2-0. Defeat for Tavistock leaves them 11 points adrift of safety now, but with plenty of games in hand. However, winning them is the issue with only three victories from their first 21 games of the campaign, which marked the halfway point of the season at Langsford Park.
"Brixham was the halfway point of the season for us, we are 21 games in now, there are another 63 points to play for and we just have to keep going," Henderson said.
"I was speaking to the Brixham chaps at the end and it sounds stupid, but it is a tough league. I believe there is a big difference between the Western League and the Southern League and we are finding it tough, but we keep going, we keep working and we have some really good young players coming through which will bode the club well in the future.
