BID TO REBUILD LARGE PARTS OF THE COUNCIL-BUILT CENTRE

- WILLIAM TELFORD

pool Pavilions' and ice rink to be demolished

THE disused ice rink and swimming pool at Plymouth Pavilions are set to be knocked down and the land built on.

Bosses at the Pavilions are asking Plymouth City Council for permission to demolish the redundant parts of the entertainment complex and redevelop the site.

The swimming pool shut in March 2012 and the ice rink on January 1, 2023. There are no plans to close the Pavilions arena and it will continue to stage shows and even operate while the other parts of the building are torn down.

Pavilions bosses said removing unwanted areas of the building will allow the Pavilions to focus on the operation and further development of its core music/ events arena business.

And the demolition would create opportunity the for future development of those parts of the site in line with the council's vision for new homes and businesses within a "regenerated and revitalised area" around Bath Street. They said it would also unlock the space needed to complete the so-called Millbay boulevard.
