Paul's ride funds three days of vital research

MAN RAISED £9,000 AFTER HIS SISTER DIED FROM BRAIN TUMOUR

A FAMILY who lost a beloved sister to a brain tumour has dedicated three days of research in her memory. During March, which is Brain Tumour Awareness Month, the family has raised over £9,000 to help find a cure for the devastating disease.

Paul Thompson, 46, from Tavistock, was inspired to support the charity Brain Tumour Research after losing his sister Lizzi Snaith, aged 42, in August 2023. The tragedy came more than 15 years after her diagnosis with a high grade astroblastoma brain tumour, a rare form of glioma. Lizzi, who lived near Whitby, North Yorkshire, left a daughter Katie, then aged 15.

This month, Paul, wife Keri and daughter Daisy Pearce were invited to the Brain Tumour Research Centre of Excellence at the University of Plymouth to find out how his fundraising is helping support scientists working to improve the diagnosis and treatment of children and adults with brain tumours.

The team at the University of Plymouth are focusing particularly on research into low-grade brain tumours, which often go on to develop into high-grade brain tumours with much poorer prognoses for patients.
