Parking fines system is flawed - RAC

PRIVATE parking companies have issued 76 million tickets in the seven years since a parliamentary Bill for a still-awaited code of practice became law, according to new analysis.
-
Motoring research charity the RAC Foundation, which calculated the figure, said it demonstrates “something fundamental is wrong with the system".
The Parking (Code of Practice) Bill received royal assent on March 15, 2019. This was aimed at creating a code of conduct for the private parking sector after long-running accusations of misleading and confusing signs, aggressive debt collection and unreasonable fees.
A code was due to come into force across Britain by the end of 2023. But it was withdrawn by the then-Conservative government in June 2022 after a legal challenge by parking companies.
