Overseas fights are opening doors for Plymouth Boxer Adaway
The Herald
|June 19, 2025
PLYMOUTH super bantamweight Connor Adaway said he is riding the crest of a wave after pursuing opportunities to fight overseas, despite several of recent results not going entirely his way.
Adaway’s last four fights have taken place in three different countries, and his latest clash took place in a purpose-built venue in Utrecht, Netherlands, last weekend.
Although he only earned a majority draw with Fazil Juma, the fact he was in the away corner in a shortened six-round contest means it has not dented his confidence.
It followed a controversial defeat over ten rounds against Majid Karimi Poshtiri in Thanyaburi, Thailand, last month, which was for the Asian Boxing Federation Super Bantamweight title.
Adaway believes he had done enough in that fight to earn a win, despite being knocked down in the eighth round in sweltering conditions.
But he is optimistic about continuing to take opportunities on foreign soil, and is looking forward to a scheduled clash in Atlantic City, USA, in August, when he is due to take on Puerto Rican fighter Emmanuel Rodriguez.
"I am on the crest of a wave right now where I am taking away fights and getting good opportunities on the back of these fights," he told Herald Sport.
