Margaret Thatcher was years ahead of her time

Having read all the insults and abuse hurled at the Iron Lady on the centenary of her birth in the lead letter in The Herald on 17 October, I would just like to offer a few thoughts of my own.

I am not saying that Margaret Thatcher never made any mistakes, or that the facts set out in that letter are wrong. However, much positivity about her premiership is also freely available. Many believe that this milestone should be celebrated. Mrs Thatcher showed a decisiveness and refusal to be swayed from her policies ("the lady's not for turning") sadly lacking in all the leaders who have followed her. That must be of value to the country.
