TWO MEN INVOLVED IN FRACAS GIVEN SUSPENDED SENTENCES

- By CARL EVE

TWO men who were involved in a brawl outside a Plympton pub after it closed have narrowly avoided a jail sentence.

Alex Gilman, aged 28 and Alfie Samuels, aged 26 both appeared at Plymouth Crown Court after pleading guilty to affray. The court heard how on December 3, 2023 at around 1.40am they were involved in an incident outside the Post Office Inn in Ridgeway, Plympton.

At the time police said there were two groups which took part in the brawl which left two people requiring medical treatment at Derriford Hospital. A spokesperson for the force explained "It looks like two groups of individuals were all having a chat outside the pub and all of a sudden it has escalated."

The court heard how Gilman, of Danum Drive, Plymouth, and Samuels, of Perriwin-kle Drive, Plymouth, were present within a group of friends outside the pub which was closed at this time and "words were exchanged" with another group.
