Independent cafe competes with big chains

THE owners of a new independent cafe which opened in Plymouth this month have said it’s “hard to compete with the larger chains in the city”.

The Blooming Brew opened on Durnford Street, on August 4.

Sam Jones, 28, set up and runs the business along with chef Jon Bellamy, 38. Sam is enthusiastic about the work: “So far the cafe has been doing well, as a small independent establishment we do everything we can to give our customers the best food and service and so far we have seen some great results from this. However, it is hard to compete with the larger chains in the city.”

The menu at The Blooming Brew stretches from breakfast to burgers and jacket potatoes. Some of the cafe’s bestsellers so far have been their breakfast pancake stack and cheesy, bacon-loaded hash browns.
