THE TYPE 23 FRIGATE IS TO BE SCRAPPED AND RECYCLED
HMS Monmouth has been sold for recycling, it has been confirmed. The Type 23 frigate has been sold to Turkey following her 28-year career sailing across the globe.
The sale, facilitated by the Defence, Equipment and Support (DE&S) Exports and Sales team, formerly known as Defence Equipment Sales Authority (DESA), was for recycling only, to make use of the vessel's parts and ensure responsible disposal. The Ministry of Defence said Monmouth was “beyond her intended lifespan,” leaving her “uneconomical to repair”.
