Hike in car parking fees defended by city council

March 14, 2025

IT is going to be more expensive to park a car in Plymouth after the council decided to hike prices. On-street parking charges will rise by 20p an hour and some short-stay car parks will be more pricey too.

- By WILLIAM TELFORD

Permits are going up as well, there will be a 20p “convenience” charge for using the RingGo app and it will be more expensive to apply for a disabled parking space outside a property. And evening charges will rise to the same level as during the day. The changes come into force next month.

The council blamed inflation and said it wanted to make parking prices and permits more consistent. Cllr Mark Coker, Plymouth City Council cabinet member for transport, said: “Like most local authorities, our financial challenges, due to rising costs and demand mean that we do need to make some alterations to our charging policy.”
