End in sight for first phase of road upgrade

Traffic queuing on the A386 at Tavistock Road caused by roadworks as part of the £45m road widening project

Construction began on the Woolwell to the George Traffic Scheme a year ago, in a bid to ease congestion on the A386.

The scheme includes widening Tavistock Road between Woolwell Roundabout and the George Park and Ride, as well as replacing Woolwell Roundabout with a new signalised junction.

The Woolwell to The George scheme has been in the pipeline for many years, with a consultation carried out as long ago as 2017.

Itis aimed at tackling one of Plymouth’s worst traffic bottlenecks and providing better links to and from the north of Plymouth as it grows.

About 4,400 new homes are planned in the north of the city - including 2,000 new homes at the Woolwell Urban Extension.
