Church to undergo a major redevelopment

PLAN FOR COMMUNITY HUB WITH SPACE FOR CLUBS, FOODBANKS AND MORE

A MAJOR redevelopment is being proposed for the Derriford United Reformed Church site in north Plymouth, with plans to replace the ageing complex with a purpose-built church and community hub designed to better serve the area's needs.

Submitted by Mr Mark Woodhouse on behalf of the church, the preapplication outlines the vision to demolish the existing buildings at 5, Caradon Close and create a modern, accessible facility.

The proposed development would be situated more prominently along Powisland Drive, to improve visibility and offer enhanced community access.

According to the covering letter by architect Jez Lavers, the redevelopment would “transform the existing church estate into a single, modern facility that functions as both a place of worship and a vital local resource.”

The current church site comprises three separate structures - church, hall and manse - clustered around a sloping car park.
