AS CITY OFFICIALLY ENTERS RACE TO BE 'UK CITY OF CULTURE'
THERE has been a call for more investment in Plymouth’s music scene as the city officially puts its name forward to be UK City of Culture 2029.
Britain's Ocean City has now formally submitted its expression of interest (EOI), officially entering the race for the title of UK City of Culture and the chance to land £10m to fund a year of events celebrating its culture and coastal identity.
Other locations in the contest include Wrexham, Ipswich, Blackpool, Peterborough, Bristol, Swindon, Portsmouth, Exeter, Thanet, Milton Keynes, Reading and a countywide bid from Hereford-shire. Last week, before all the locations were known, bookies ranked Plymouth as a frontrunner alongside Wrexham.
The team behind Plymouth’s bid said there has been an overwhelming response to the plan with strong feedback from consultation events across the city.
