LOAN SIGNINGS WILL BE ARGYLE'S WAY FORWARD IN JANUARY

PLYMOUTH Argyle are more likely to make loan signings rather than permanent deals over the rest of the January transfer window, head coach Ian Foster has stated.

However, Foster has not ruled out the possibility of the Pilgrims completing a permanent transfer, especially if there are more departures from Home Park.

Six players have already moved on since the start of January - Finn Azaz, Luke Cundle, Macaulay Gillesphey, Kaine Kesler-Hayden, Lewis Warrington and Tyreik Wright while teenage pair Ashley Phillips and Darko Gyabi have arrived on loan from Tottenham Hotspur and Leeds United respectively.

Foster said: "We are looking at where we need to strengthen. Although the transfer window is bubbling away and you don't want to miss out on players, I just need to identify exactly where we need strength.

"So we are working hard behind the scenes to attract those players to the football club. I'm sure we can do that and if there is anything on a permanent deal that is a) affordable and b) will make us better and add to the group then we will look at that as well."

Foster continued: "I would say it's more likely to be loans. It's very difficult in this window unless you are going to spend heavy to go and get a permanent deal because players at this stage will want two-and-a-half-year contracts and beyond.

"I'm not sure whether we are in a position to do that at the moment, but we will definitely add to the group. If other players leave that might open the window then for potentially a permanent signing and we will have a look at that.
