I GET the impression there are viewers getting sucked into this whole World Cup thing who've previously found football a turn-off. If so, I think I can guess why.

Being a fan blows hot and cold

With World Cup matches swamping the schedules (is it 38 live games a day? Something like that), many viewers will have waved the white flag and surrendered.

‘May as well see what the fuss is about,’ they'll have thought.

So they'll have stayed tuned for some of the games - and then spotted something they've rather warmed to. Namely, people having fun. In the crowd, I mean. You know, people with flags, hilarious headgear, funny costumes, face paints and what have you.
