Workers stuck on zero-hours contracts for years, TUC finds

Hundreds of thousands of British workers are on zero-hours contracts despite having been with the same employer for years, according to analysis from the TUC.

The majority of workers on zero-hours contracts had been with their employer for more than 12 months, while one in eight had not been granted regular employment rights after more than a decade working in the same place, the organisation said.

More than a million people are working on a zero-hours contract basis, and the TUC said a clear majority of them, about 720,000 workers, had been with their current employer for more than a year, according to labour force data from the Office for National Statistics. About 130,000 people were still retained on zero-hours contracts after 10 years with the same employer, it found.
