Cooper enlists MIs to track gangs behind Channel boats

Yvette Cooper will chair a summit today aimed at apprehending criminal gangs involved in smuggling people over the Channel in small boats, and the Home Office has disclosed that MI5 officers have been given a key role in operations.
Intelligence officers, Border Force staff and the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) will be present at the meeting at the National Crime Agency's headquarters.
The home secretary will be joined by the foreign secretary, David Lammy, the justice secretary, Shabana Mahmood, and the attorney general, Richard Hermer.
The meeting is being held three days after 12 people died attempting the perilous journey across one of the world's busiest shipping routes.
Another 257 migrants crossed the Channel on Wednesday.
