BBC bosses consider releasing shows on YouTube

The BBC could soon start making programmes for YouTube in a drive to reach younger audiences.
Some of the content would be released on the video platform first under proposals that could be announced as early as next week.
The BBC has come under pressure from politicians and the regulator, Ofcom, to put more content on YouTube, which users increasingly turn to when watching TV, content creators, short-form videos and podcasts.
The corporation and other public service broadcasters have been demanding that, in return, YouTube gives their content more prominence on its platform. It is not yet known whether the US company has agreed to do this as part of the deal.
The plans, first reported by the Financial Times, could mean shows made for YouTube are subsequently placed on the corporation’s own iPlayer and Sounds digital platforms, which have been growing fast. The BBC could benefit from advertising revenue that is generated outside the UK and attached to the programmes.
