From Shadows to Strength The Journey of Kashmiri Women

HOW GOVERNMENT INITIATIVES AND SOCIAL SHIFTS ARE POWERING A SILENT REVOLUTION

The development of any society to a large extent relies on the involvement and empowerment of its women.

In Kashmir, women have always been essential members of families and communities, but for many decades, their roles were constrained by several social and economic hindrances. Limited access to quality education, poor job opportunities, and economic dependency created inequality, undermining their growth and autonomy. Yet in recent times, a number of schemes and initiatives launched by the central and union territory governments have provided new avenues of opportunity to Kashmiri women, enabling them to become equal stakeholders in society.

Empowerment of a woman means that she can make independent choices about her life, which includes accepting equal participation in education, economic participation/leadership, and healthcare with the idea of breaking down the traditional barriers, and taking a step towards establishing a place for women to feel secure and respected, as well as pushed to take the necessary steps to continue or begin their objectives. In Kashmir, numerous schemes established to support this drive have been useful in changing the lives of countless women, especially those who are rural and marginalized.
