A SLOVAN Bratislava director has detailed how Middlesbrough beat several clubs to land striker David Strelec, with the long-term target said to have been ‘desperate’ to join Boro.

Strelec completed a move to Boro on transfer deadline day, with Boro paying a £6.5m fee, while there's potential to owe an extra £2m, depending on certain performance-related bonuses. But Boro were not alone in their interest in the Slovakian international, who signed a five-year deal on Teesside.
