MIDDLESBROUGH loanee Sammy Silvera's struggles continued as he made a rare start for Blackpool on a disappointing day in which the Seasiders’ play-off chances all but came to an end.

Silvera made a rare start as Blackpool disappointed in defeat to Wrexham due to an injury to Sonny Carey. It left them nine points off the top six with only three games remaining. Leyton Orient and Reading need only one more point to officially end Blackpool's hopes.

For Silvera, he was said to have struggled in the 2-1 defeat to Wrexham, which was only his third start since moving to Bloomfield Road after failing to make the grade at Championship outfit Portsmouth in the first half of the season. Asked about the Australian's rare start after the game, manager Steve Bruce was hardly glowing.

Bruce said: “We've got two or three replacements, and we chose Sammy because he’s done well coming on of late. He’s not had much game time. I was really pleased when he came on last week, and I was really pleased when he came on at Rotherham.
