Police reassure residents as crime rates discussed

POLICE have reassured Middlesbrough residents after the town's crime rates were discussed at a council meeting.

Labour Councillor Jill Ewan queried statistics shared on the reduction in crime in recent years in Middlesbrough, as well as believing murders in the town were much more common than in previous years.
However, figures shared by Cleveland Police show five murders in the town in the last four years, compared to three between 2005 and 2008 (inclusive).
At Middlesbrough Council's Place Scrutiny Panel on Monday, January 26, Marion Walker, head of neighbourhoods at the council said that while crime data tells one side of the story, there needs to be discussions with people about what it “feels” like in the town.
