Developers turn page on plans for old bookshop

PLANS to convert a former book shop property into a boutique hotel and restaurant have been replaced with a straightforward flats conversion.

The original proposal for the building in Amber Street, Saltburn - one of the town’s so-called jewel streets - envisaged a small hotel with five en-suite rooms being created on the first and second floors above.
Meanwhile, a change of use approved by councillors in November 2023, would have also seen a restaurant and bar created on the ground floor.
The plans have since been superseded by a more straightforward application recently lodged with Redcar and Cleveland Council to refurbish the property, creating three new flats with two bedrooms each.
