Continued road closure comes in for criticism

THE decision to keep an important road in Stockton town centre closed until next spring has come under fire from opponents of the council's leadership.

Construction is under way on the Stockton Waterfront urban park

Stockton Council announced last week that Riverside Road would stay closed until spring to allow work on the “iconic” and “transformational” urban park to be finished.

It previously said the road would close until the end of the year after Waterfront development was hit by “unforeseen technical difficulties” with cabling, with leaders saying the road closure has kept the flagship project on track.

Now the Labour-led authority says the road will be closed until the urban park - under construction for two years - is completed.
