Chelsea's riches to boost Boro pot?
The Gazette
|July 18, 2025
MIDDLESBROUGH could benefit from an eight-figure financial boost this summer, if Chelsea follow through with reported interest in Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers.
Boro sold Rogers to Villa 18 months ago for a fee worth up to £16m. The quickfire sale came just as he was beginning to show his best at Boro after an indifferent start on Teesside.
Rogers has gone from strength to strength since moving to Villa Park though, and last season provided 11 assists in the Premier League, starred in Villa’s Champions League campaign and won his first four senior England caps.
That ultimately benefited Boro, as they earned extra money based on performance-related bonuses.
But mindful that Rogers still had plenty of room for growth, Boro also insisted that a sell-on percentage clause was inserted in the deal.
